Maximum, directed by Kabeer Kaushik is an interesting idea that sadly doesn’t translate into a coherent film. The film is a blur of plans being hatched, accomplices switching sides, and information being compromised. But it’s hard to stay awake when it’s all unfolding so slowly. It’s all too grim and dull, and we don’t even get characters worth caring for. Only Sonu Sood performs earnestly, but he’s let down by a humorless script. He deserved better. So did we......Read Full Review

MAXIMUM suffers for a valid reason: A skeletal plot that lacks meat in its screenplay. Kabeer may've borrowed from real-life, but he isn't able to bind the incidents and episodes convincingly so as to deliver an enthralling fictional fare. MAXIMUM has an attention-grabbing premise, but lacks the meat in its screenplay to leave much of an impact........Read Full Review

Director Kabeer Kaushik, has a good force of actors here and a gripping premise, but he doesn't quite lead the way. There are scenes where he triggers good performances, but with the inclusion of too many facts, figures and case files, it loses entertainment value. And gradually the plot fades into dark gullies of our big, bad Maximum city......Read Full Review

Unfortunately Kabeer Kaushik's encounter-specialist story 'Maximum' doesn't even come up with an original figure on the encounter count and rather derives it from the cult film in the genre - Ab Tak Chhappan (56). Also Bollywood has encountered the quintessential encounter specialist so many times by now that there isn't anything special left about the character or his chronicle anymore. Maximum shows minimum originality thereby making it a plain average attempt......Read Full Review

The film leads up to a complicated mess and Pandit(Sonu Sood) is on the verge of being suspended for something that you can’t be bothered to understand or care for. Why one of the finest actors of the Hindi film industry agreed to share space with this motley crew to put up a show worth forgetting, is something only Naseeruddin Shah knows. Maximum offers indiscriminate firing, some minimum wage foreign locations and a death duel featuring cop Vs cop Vs your better sense.......Read Full Review

Maximum promises maximum. Does it deliver? Not quite. Maximum bites off far more than it can comfortably chew. The film lacks the nuanced detailing and the urgent pacing that should have automatically sprung from a theme yanked out of the internal files of a highly politicised police force. Living up to its title, the film had raised hopes of a new dawn. Maximum falls way short: it does not turn out to be a morning bright and sunny enough to spread all-round cheer.......Read Full Review

Maximum lacks the vivid detailing and the plot badly lacks meat. A man with all the greys and all the power. Sonu has an impressive screen presence, but fails to prove himself due to weak plot. On the whole, the film certainly doesn't make any sense and fails to deliver the MAXIMUM.......Read Full Review

Maximum has stray moments of power but the film feels like a Ram Gopal Varma rehash; mercifully though there are no cameras zooming into teacups like there were in Varma’s recently released Department, which was also about power-hungry, corrupt encounter specialists. We really need an embargo.....Read Full Review

Maximum features good actors lazily reeling off lines that go nowhere. It's all so deathly boring. Somewhere, Naseeruddin Shah seethes, possibly at the lack of narrative heft. In the end, Kaushik realises he's left too many guns unfired, and things come to a head in a pointless hail of bullets, rivals trading fatal gunshots in turn, like polite ping-pong players.....Read Full Review

The performances by Sonu and Naseer Shah propel the plot to a gripping summit. But there isn`t enough of Naseer. `Maximum` is a film that`s far more in-charge of its out-of-control sharp-shooting cops than it seems. There are some brilliantly executed shootouts. `Maximum` is a minimum-fuss crime drama where the characters are so austere in their emotions they somehow seem to be constantly shadow-dancing with their conscience. For Sonu `Maximum` is a new beginning......Read Full Review

'Maximum' turns out to be a dampener. Not because it doesn’t have interesting actors. Nor because it doesn’t have interesting situations. But because it comes off merely as 'Sehar' redux, minus its power. And Sonu Sood leaves an impact even when he is not doing too much, the characterisitic of a good actor......Read Full Review

What’s Bad: The uninteresting story and screenplay; the half-baked characters.

After watching the movie for a while, it strikes all of a sudden that this one stars a host of underrated actors who effortlessly dazzle with strong performances. Naseer saab is always intense and there’s no denying that every time he opens his mouth, he leaves you awestruck. The inconsistency is what makes the film lose brownie points. But the actors do manage to mesmerise you – kudos to them for infusing a much-needed edge to this not-very-great story.......Read Full Review

The plot… well there isn’t one. But if I had to describe it, the word ‘random’ would fit pretty well. Sood’s character is conflicted. The script fails on many levels and the film seems longer than its 150-minute duration. The events, after a point, make no sense and become hard to follow because you are just too damn bored to care anymore. Do not waste your time and money on this one.......Read Full Review

Shootouts in main streets are quite common. Policemen tuck in revolvers in their jeans. Bollywood heroine is attracted to the top cop (Sood), who is a celebrity in his own right. There’s hardly anything new to be said. The subject is done to death, and looks jaded and irrelevant now. So does this film. Obviously......Read Full Review
