Aiyyaa Review
Ojha's Opinion: Aiyya could have proved a dashing come-back for Rani as it was for SriDevi in English Vinglish. Its stuffed with midless comedy though makes you laugh, Rani's awesome performance, giggles & scratches, some ENTER10MEANT (#if you know what I mean) and annoying pace.

Aiyyaa, with its bright visual palette, its strong female perspective, and its intentionally peculiar humor, is evocative of Almodovar’s quirky cinema, but the plot here is wafer thin, and while some elements work, it never all comes together as a satisfying whole. It certainly doesn’t help that the film unfolds over two hours and thirty minutes…an excruciatingly long running time for what’s essentially a slim story of a one-sided crush. In the end — the impressive camerawork and Amit Trivedi’s winning tunes aside — Aiyyaa is at best an original and promising experiment let down by its many indulgences.......Read Full Review

Rani Mukerji lives the role of Meenakshi and tries to rise above the mediocre script. Sachin Kundalkar’s direction seems laboured as the effort to make the viewers laugh shows. Aiyyaa is not the kind of love story which would find universal appeal. Rani Mukerji and the music are its plus points, and the dull script, its biggest minus point. Its run at the cinemas will be less than ordinary. It has taken a dull start and not much will change because the film lacks entertainment. .......Read Full Review

AIYYAA is a desi film at heart. Also, quirky and funny. Although the plot is innovative, but skeletal, what keeps the film going is Sachin Kundalkar's ability to stumble upon humor in the most ordinary situations. There are reasons aplenty as to why AIYYAA becomes a deserving watch. It's arresting, amusing, entertaining and of course, thoroughly enjoyable, with Rani's splendid act, refreshingly different plot, winsome songs, pleasant humor and terrific moments as its aces. Don't miss it! .......Read Full Review

Rani was at her best in Aiyyaa, she seduces, amazes, makes us laughs no matter what she is, a light candy or actress. Pace drags at certain points. Film could have been better structure if editing & other directorial aspects were handled properly. Music fantastic as well. Watch it only for Rani..!!.....Watch Video Review

From top to basumm Rani is truly Wonderum! Sachin Kundalkar starts out well, but while juggling between Marathi matrimonials and midnight-masala, his plot goes 'wakda' (read: digresses). After a few giggles, erotic gasps, and gaanas (Amit Trivedi), the story stretches pointlessly and loses its scent. Even with such a talented ensemble, this one turns into a cultural showpiece, and gets lost in translation. That's the sad-partumm!.....Read Full Review

Aiyyaa is a bewilderingly odd film. Rani is delightful as a woman in heat.. Aiyyaa have energy and passion. But film is drowned by the insistence on being wakda - crooked. Clearly wackiness can't carry a film......Read Full Review

To enjoy a film like 'Aiyyaa', logic and rational definitely have to be left behind. Sachin Kundalkar creates a funny, slightly eccentric, filmi protagonist but he expects her charm to carry a film that is saddled with a ridiculous plot and side characters who are intended to be amusing but border on the annoying.Watch it if you can overlook the flaws, Rani's fun side promises some genuine laughs.......Read Full Review

Aiyyaa, in one word is director Sachin Kundalkar's fantasy. The director is so self-absorbed and self-obsessed that it seems the film was not made for audiences but to satisfy his own creative urges. Aiyyaa is a make-believe world where characters are as contrived as they could be. There is no way to find fault with Rani but she is shockingly let down by the storyline. However, one can't help but say that after every ten minutes or so as the film progresses one expects an unexpected turn that never comes.......Read Full Review

Aiyyaa is no ordinary film. Wildly wakda (read twisted) in more ways than one, it is a film that defies definition. Aiyyaa takes time to warm up, slips into dull patches at times and occasionally teeters on the edge of a certain dissonance. But the subversive spirit that drives the absurdist core of Aiyyaa is well worth embracing.......Read Full Review

What’s Good: The superb acting of the entire cast; the Aga bai song; the direction; the general madness in the film.
What’s Bad: The sniffing and chasing; the stretched screenplay.
Loo Break: Not really.
Watch or Not?: Watch Aiyyaa for a quirkily different film with very good performances but be warned that it drags........Read Full Review

Though filled with clichés and caught in stereotypes, there is something that works in favour of Aiyyaa as it slips into the category of mindless comedy without crossing the line into idiocy like rom-coms normally do. The director had the potential of producing something way better with the kind of team he had at his disposal, however, he fails to do so.
Though the film is limited by cheesy dialogues and prosaism, it proves to be an entertainer and a definite treat for every Rani Mukerji fan........Read Full Review

Aiyya’ is not a script poorly handled rather it is a script poorly written. We can only hope that Sachin Kundalkar doesn’t repeat his mistake and make his audience go ‘Aiyyaa’ in pain again. Rani has given several remarkable performances in her past films but sadly ‘Aiyyaa’ fails to make the right use of her acting talent......Read Full Review

Aiyyaa is humorous and interesting. It's a treat to all the Rani Mukherjee fans out there as it promises out and out 'Entertainment, 'Entertainment' and 'Entertainment'. The best thing about Aiyyaa is that it balances well on both the aspects of comedy and sensitivity. Kudos to director Sachin Kundalkar and his ability to stumble upon humour in the most ordinary situations.......Read Full Review

Those used to viewing wonky diploma films and experimental shorts at various short film competitions would be familiar with a film like this. They usually sound funnier in narration than they look on screen, and ought to go straight to YouTube. Aiyyaa is raised in size and proportion with item songs, top-line star cast, massive promotions, and a mainstream theatrical release. I feel sorry for Rani Mukherjee fans, who are probably tearing their hair out at an expensive multiplex right now.......Read Full Review

Kundalkar got lost between a mad-cap comedy and wanting to portray a young Marathi girl with her zest for life to make it big on her own. Sometimes, comedy is good when it is used in the right doses but when it is overdone, it borders on obscenity. Sad, because AIYYAA could have been to Rani Mukherji what ENGLISH VINGLISH did to Sridevi. Nevertheless, for Rani Mukherji fans this is a must-watch! ......Read Full Review
