If Sam Raimi’s 2002 Spider-Man is still fresh in your memory, there’s a good chance the new reboot might feel boringly familiar. To be fair, despite covering pretty much the same ground as that earlier film, The Amazing Spider-Man still works. Despite its faults – the standard-issue storyline, the 138-minute running time, a thankless role for Irrfan Khan, and the gratuitous 3D – this reboot of the Spider-Man saga rests almost entirely on the romance between its leads. Indeed, Garfield and Stone alone make this movie worth your time. Definitely deserves a watch!........Read Full Review

The Amazing Spider-Man is pretty amazing. The movie retreads old ground. But there's enough spectacle, action and layers here to make it a fun ride. Not to mention, a scary nine-foot-tall reptilian villain played with panache by Rhys Ifans. And our very own Irrfan Khan, who drums up menace without any make-up or CGI. I recommend that you get to the theater.......Read Full review

With great power comes great responsibility. Now who could understand this better than director Marc Webb. The romance between Andrew Garfield(The new Spider Man) and Emma Stone that takes this Spider-Man movie to a whole new level of EQ (emotional quotient) stuff. For this Spider-Man, to err is (super) human. He trips, slips and fumbles... till he actually slings across skyscrapers... and stoops to conquer. A word about Irrfan Khan. While Irrfan says it's not a long role, Marc Webb says it's pivotal. We say: You decide.......Read Full Review

The Amazing Spider-Man is a reasonably well-done reboot which manages to make an emotional connection with its audience irrespective of how it appears to ostensibly shun its source material and the ever-present but sometimes- stodgy back story. However, the action, performances and stylised spectacles is thrown the audience’s way are sure to have its senses tingling all the same.......Read Full Review

What’s Good?: The new changes in the story; the fight sequences; Spidey’s romance.
What’s Bad?: It can seem like old wine in a new bottle at times; Dr. Curt Connors’ sudden change of character.
Verdict: The Amazing Spider-Man is a nicely rehashed tale of the webbed superhero.......Read Full Review

Heady romance gives a vitally thumping bassline to The Amazing Spider-Man. Strangely for a superhero blockbuster, however, the sentiments overwhelm the setpieces. For one, the cast is smashing. Andrew Garfield brings a wiry jumpiness to Parker. Emma Stone is a treat as Gwen Stacy, ebullient and fresh enough. It’s a dynamic new way to see Spidey on screen, and as he gets better — both at his job and at realising just what his job is — this new Spider-Man soars........Read Full Review

The plot is predictable – good vs. evil – with the underlying theme of ‘with great power comes great responsibility’ Marc Webb manages to give a humane touch to the superhero and goes heavy on the romance part. India’s representation in the film through Irrfan Khan remains sketchy and unsatisfactory. The special effects are neatly done. Watch it for a new, transformed Spider-Man. This one is bound to make all the girls swoon over him in the near future.......Read Full Review

Marc Webb succeeds in delivering escapist entertainment where the emotional element is every bit as important as the visual razzmatazz. In other words, The Amazing Spider-Man guarantees fun time for audiences across generation. Fasten your seatbelts and get set to soar on a techno-thrill ride with The Amazing Spider-Man........Read Full Review

The Amazing Spider-Man was a lot of FUN. What I really found interesting though the film doesn't end in the spirit of action but lingers on a bit to emphasize on Spider-Man's growth and realizations. And after a brief roll of closing credits, there's a sly suggestion of a possibility......Read Full Review

Where there's a super-hero, there ought to be an arch-enemy. This scientist morphs into a green Lizard, the villain. It’s not quite clear exactly why he wants to destroy the world. This character is quite unconvincing. Which is sad for the main anti-hero. But would you care? No. Would you watch and love this film anyway? Yes, you would. I did. This is a joy-ride. And I feel much happier now than before the film started. That’s all you ought to care about.

A well-chosen cast and sure-handed direction allows The Amazing Spider-Man to thrill despite revisiting many of the same plot points from 2002's Spider-Man.

In its broad strokes, "The Amazing Spider-Man" is a remake of Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" (2002) But this is a more thoughtful film, and its action scenes are easier to follow in space and time. If we didn't really need to be told Spidey's origin story again, at least it's done with more detail and provides better reasons for why Peter Parker throws himself into his superhero role. This is the first Spider-Man who can leap off a skyscraper and make us wonder if he has a plan in mind.......Read Full Review

Mr. Webb's Spider-Man movie works only because he keeps the whole package, at least until the requisite final blowout, tethered to his two appealing leads. To be precise, it takes an increasingly dull, drawn-out 136 minutes to work through a story that many moviegoers older than 10 may think they’ve seen because they probably did when the first movie burned up the box office......Read Full Review

The Amazing Spider-Man delivers in its action and flying scenes as Spidey fights the villain, a.k.a. The Lizard (Rhys Ifans). The core of the new movie is the love story. Webb never loses touch with the film's emotional through line. Its a Spider Man that touches the heart. Really amazing........Read Full Review

The message of the original Spider Man, that there's nothing noble about revenge, morphs into "Secrets have a cost" dictum here. The movie rarely stumbles into "terrible," but this Spider Man never rises to anything, either. Where's the charm, the heart, the humor? It's like they're starting over with nothing worth starting with.
