Bolstered by its riveting performances and its thrilling plot dynamics, this is a gripping film that seizes your full attention. A big thumbs-up for composer Sneha Khanwalkar who goes all guns blazing to deliver a marvelous mixed-bag of a soundtrack that contains such irresistible gems as I am a hunter and Keh ke loonga. Despite its occasionally indulgent narrative, this bullet-ridden saga is worthy of a repeat viewing, if only to catch all its nuances. Don’t miss it......Read Full Review

Gangs of Wasseypur is ambitious, exciting and hugely frustrating.  There is so much to enjoy here – terrific performances, Sneha Khanwalkar's thumping soundtrack and many, many powerful moments.  But there is so much plot packed into two hours and forty five minutes that you feel both battered and bewildered. Gangs of Wasseypur isn't an easy watch but I recommend that you see it, if only as a preamble to part two......Read Full Review

Manoj Bajpai does a wonderful job as the man on a mission. The script works for one section of the audience but will not at all be liked by another section. In any case, it will be found to be too lengthy and boring in parts, even by that section of the audience which would like the drama. Anurag Kashyap's direction is excellent.......Read Full Review

It's brutal, savage and disturbing. Not for people with weak hearts. Manoj Bajpayee excels among a crowd of good actors. He has played his role with absolutely no inhibition. The second half seems stretched - weakness. Strengths are acting, research and cinematography.....Read Tweets

GANGS OF WASSEYPUR symbolizes the fearless new Indian cinema that shatters the clichés and conventional formulas, something which Anurag Kashyap has come to be acknowledged for. It has all the trappings of an entertainer, but with a difference. The film prides itself with substance that connects with enthusiasts of new-age cinema. Also, this striking movie-watching experience comes with a colossal length and duration. GANGS OF WASSEYPUR is for that segment of spectators who seek pleasure in watching forceful, hard-hitting and gritty movies.....Read Full Review

Its a trippy outburst of vivid characters reeking of revenge, deep-seethed rivalries blended with an off-kilter soundtrack and clever dialogue. Although, self-indulgent in parts the film manages to say a lot in approx 160 minutes of runtime. GOW is surely entertaining but isn’t fearless. The film doesn’t disappoint but it also doesn’t satiate your hunger. The second part trailer has been attached at the end of the film. Maybe, that would be a fulfilling experience, perhaps!......Read Full Review

This one's a gang bang. Sorry, make that a gang bang-bang; because that's how this story explodes - with bullets, blasts and bust-ups. The electric background score keeps the tempo in this drama, and the music though folkish, is hip and cool. But beware; GOW is not for the weak-hearted. So, hold on to your guns, gamchas and 'womaniyas'.......Read Full Review

Right from its long opening sequence where a gang relentlessly showers bullets and bombs at the haveli of their rival gang, with inhuman intentions to terminate everyone from woman, kids to elderly, Anurag Kashyup establishes the tone, temperament and texture of his gritty gang-war drama. In terms of its story, Gangs of Wasseypur seems like a basic revenge drama.Gangs of Wasseypur is amongst Anurag Kashyup's most accomplished and engaging works since Black Friday. And we are talking about just half of the film!.....Read Full Review

Gangs of Wasseypur is a full-on Bollywood film without quite being one. Loaded with action, romance and music and doffs of the hat to old-school masala, this effervescent blazing-guns opera is ingeniously orchestrated in a way that lends it the flounce and flair of an artful musical romp. It delivers shock and delight in equal measure. It may not for the faint-hearted and the prissy. Gangs of Wasseypur is a heavyweight knockout punch.......Read Full Review

The yawns are the primary issue with Anurag Kashyap's Gangs Of Wasseypur, an impressively ambitious -- and excellently shot -- collection of memorable characters and entertaining scenes, set to a killer soundtrack. The film never recovers from the unforgivably tedious first half-hour, and despite many laudable moments and nifty touches, never quite engages. Anurag Kashyap gets gets flavour, setting and character right with Gangs Of Wasseypur but the lack of economy cripples the film. There is a lot of gunfire, but like the fine actors populating its sets, Wasseypur fires too many blanks......Read Full Review

Bihar and the states that have sprouted from within it make for a brilliant canvas for cinema. ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ manages to use this to their advantage to terrorize, titillate and create cinematic icons who will dictate how any actor would approach an anti-hero character in the future. And it manages all this based on a simple philosophy: Ain’t no sunshine when… you’re on the wrong side of a loaded gun.

Considering the amount of blood spilled in this film, it could’ve just been called ‘Gangs of Sauce-e-pur’. Hot and sweet and different.......Read Full Review

Kashyap’s GOW is a mother of all revenge drama. Something that, you may have not seen in the recent past. It wouldn’t be wrong to say here that from the coal mines of Dhanbad, Anurag Kashyap has come out with a real heera. the film has unabashed blood, gore and abuse wherever the scene demands but no one can really say it’s all forced there for sensationalism. The violence is gritty and ruthless. Only area where the film might falter is its length. Watch it for its sheer cinematic pleasure!......Read Full Review

The grime of an actual location (not Wasseypur, as a disclaimer says) with hinterland Hindi at its heart, lends authenticity to GOW I. Apart from the characters of Manoj Bajpayee and Richa Chadda, Sneha Khanwalkar’s folksy music and GV Prakash’s earthy background score makes a world of a difference to AK’s(Anurag Kashyap) storytelling. A film that demands 100% attention and it won’t stop till it has it......Read Full Review

While the beginning and end and most of everything in between is gripping, Kashyap goes overboard in throwing in to many elements which unnecessary lengthen the film, taking away the 'impact' he would have so desired. Considering it's a complex film, handling the moods of his different characters would have taken a lot from Kashyap. He gives a 'close to reality' dose of cinema without taking the crude layer off.

GANGS OF WASSEYPUR is to be continued......Read Full Review

Gangs Of Wasseypur is fictionalised, demented history soaked in blood. Movies have a gender. This one is fully male. 4. Nice review! While I am almost certain about movie’s great show in the global arena, I am skeptical about movie’s show at the Boxoffice. With Gangs of Wasseypur, Kashyap has launched himself with style on the global forum.
