Bolstered by its riveting performances and its thrilling plot dynamics, this is a gripping film that seizes your full attention. A big thumbs-up for composer Sneha Khanwalkar who goes all guns blazing to deliver a marvelous mixed-bag of a soundtrack that contains such irresistible gems as I am a hunter and Keh ke loonga. Gangs of Wasseypur is ambitious, exciting and hugely frustrating.  There is so much to enjoy here – terrific performances, Sneha Khanwalkar's thumping soundtrack and many, many powerful moments.  But there is so much plot packed into two hours and forty five minutes that you feel both battered and bewildered. Its a trippy outburst of vivid characters reeking of revenge, deep-seethed rivalries blended with an off-kilter soundtrack and clever dialogue. Although, self-indulgent in parts the film manages to say a lot in approx 160 minutes of runtime. GOW is surely entertaining but isn’t fearless. The film doesn’t disappoint but it also doesn’t satiate your hunger. The second part trailer has been attached at the end of the film. The yawns are the primary issue with Anurag Kashyap's Gangs Of Wasseypur, an impressively ambitious -- and excellently shot -- collection of memorable characters and entertaining scenes, set to a killer soundtrack. The film never recovers from the unforgivably tedious first half-hour, and despite many laudable moments and nifty touches, never quite engages. Anurag Kashyap gets gets flavour, setting and character right with Gangs Of Wasseypur but the lack of economy cripples the film. Bihar and the states that have sprouted from within it make for a brilliant canvas for cinema. ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ manages to use this to their advantage to terrorize, titillate and create cinematic icons who will dictate how any actor would approach an anti-hero character in the future. And it manages all this based on a simple philosophy: Ain’t no sunshine when… you’re on the wrong side of a loaded gun.

Kashyap’s GOW is a mother of all revenge drama. Something that, you may have not seen in the recent past. It wouldn’t be wrong to say here that from the coal mines of Dhanbad, Anurag Kashyap has come out with a real heera. the film has unabashed blood, gore and abuse wherever the scene demands but no one can really say it’s all forced there for sensationalism. The grime of an actual location (not Wasseypur, as a disclaimer says) with hinterland Hindi at its heart, lends authenticity to GOW I. While the beginning and end and most of everything in between is gripping, Kashyap goes overboard in throwing in to many elements which unnecessary lengthen the film, taking away the 'impact' he would have so desired. Considering it's a complex film, handling the moods of his different characters would have taken a lot from Kashyap. He gives a 'close to reality' dose of cinema without taking the crude layer off.

Gangs Of Wasseypur is fictionalised, demented history soaked in blood. Movies have a gender. This one is fully male. Given how easy it is to kill off people in this picture, it's a miracle that they're all not dead yet! Memorable background score and striking sound design adds pepper in the film.....Read Full Review
