Cocktail Movie Review

Ojha's Opinion: Okay.. Pritam's music may lure to reach the stairs of theatres but it doesn't end there. Film has some engaging moments but followed by disappointments in the second half. Starts with a spark, shakes in the middle, ends with fuzz...!!

Alas, Cocktail, directed by Homi Adajania, is no saucy menage a trois, although it does involve three friends living together in London, a little too close for comfort. No, Cocktail falls firmly in the rom-com space. With the right ingredients in the right proportions, this might have made for a smooth concoction. Its all about love & friendship with some heart-breaks. Saif and Deepika team up for the third time and the chemistry and comfort between the actors is unmistakably obvious. Diana, who makes her acting debut, gets to portray a rather difficult character for her debut film. COCKTAIL has a fascinating first half, charismatic performances, harmonious music and the trendy look and styling as its aces, but the second half is not as tempting or intoxicating as the first hour. Cocktail is a slice-of-life film mounted beautifully and imaginatively on a large canvas with the vibrant colours of London, Cape Town and New Delhi. The story keeps moving ahead without expending too much time on the obvious and inescapable elements of a love story. The pacing drops in the second half, and one gets more impatient with predictability seeping into the plot. Pritam's music is peppy and some new voices add freshness to the soundtrack. Homi Adajania's brightly glossy Cocktail seems unburdened by any grandiose cinematic ambition beyond looking very good -- an aim it meets with highly attractive leads and rather excellent art direction -- and that's cool. The first half of the film is reserved for lively sweet nothings and comedic moments while the second half gets down to unfolding the larger business of the heartbreaks, hard knocks and eventual emotional salvation that follows. Homi Adjania’s direction is impeccable. The first half of Cocktail establishes the premise; it’s a fun, happy life with song after song. The look and feel of the film is fresh and is shot at exotic locations. The fresh designs, bright colours and tribal prints of the wardrobe is very captivating. The plot seems good for the start. Deepika is a complete surprise while Diana is quite lovable. Saif is convincing..... Read Full Review

Its most of a Deepika starrer, but Diana Penty also impresses, Saif is as usual cool self. The first half, light and frothy for the most part, is fun, while the second half gets maudlin and laboured more than it needs to.
